They told me I couldn't plant vegetables in my yard because of pesticides and HOA standards - so I started growing vegetables in planters on my back porch! I wholeheartedly support the work you're doing. It makes me feel in considerably better company!

Power Mommies
(A poem for all of the power mommies on the White House Project)

Our days are long, the thanks are few but there is something special about what we do,
We wake up at the crack of dawn; pray for wisdom and guidance so we can make it through.
We fax our bid, finish a dozen emails and whip up breakfast and yeah--sometimes burn the toast.
We change many diapers, pack up backpacks while we answer calls from coast to coast.

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies, through and through.

We glance at our Outlook, while we read the latest report,
But our focus stays constant while our sons play on their fort.
We never set an appointment without careful consideration,
To ensure we help our daughters with their report on the United Nations.

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies through and through.

There are days when we are exhausted beyond measure,
Truth be told for us, our motivation is but a heartfelt treasure.
We purpose in our lives to be vibrant professionals and great mothers,
We can do just about anything—heck-- even go undercover!

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies through and through.

We can do just about anything but sometimes encouragement and compliments are few,
Whether it is guiding huge corporations or serving the homeless with our crew,
We come in all shapes and sizes and beautiful colors galore,
We are inspiring and gifted so watch out cause there is so much more!

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies through and through.

To be continued……….

Sara--I have a lot going on this week anyway but would LOVE to get together when you get back. Let's get together in May if you can as I'm gathering Pittsford, Webster, Victor, and Rochester City Schools #22, #6 and #45 at the end of the month. There may be something we can link into that you're doing in the fall and if we can discuss it in May we may be able to get it on everyone's calendar when we reconvene in August to schedule.....just let me know your availability over the next few weeks. Thank you for communicating!!

Sara--I don't know how I've missed the City of Peace efforts. I'd really love to get together with you this summer if you'd be interested. I am working to replicate a pilot program that links the lowest income elementary schools in Rochester with middle income suburban communities. The goal is to connect students, teachers and families who wouldn't ordinarily interact with the goal of "leveling the playing field" between the two groups. Currently, I'm working under the Rochester Education Foundation. www.rochestereducation.org

Sara:

The following statement is key:" ensuring a viable world for many generations to come".

I echo those sentiments! Way to go! I hope that we can learn from each other. I would like to request you as a friend.

Best wishes,

Building a world that works...

With gas prices soaring, food shortages worldwide, environmental hazards increasing, ugly politics dominating the news cycle, and other stress-laden circumstances piling up, it is no wonder that even the most interested and engaged of us are overwhelmed!

Every day, I speak to "ordinary" people who have no energy left at the end of their working day to contemplate solutions to the myriad problems of our time. It's not that they don't care (although they might say they don't) but more, I think, a… Continue

Reflections on NYC Go Run...

It's the Monday after one of the most amazing weekends I've had in my 35 years. I'm truly grateful for all of the people I met through the WHP and the experiences we shared and I'm looking forward to deepening our connections into the future. It is rare and wonderful for an organization to facilitate a network of support, training, and resources for politically engaged women. We are truly more powerful when we gather together than we are individually and our power will transform our culture and… Continue
