I was raised as a political kid involved in both local and state campaigns. I have worked as a Project Assistant for a local adult literacy program and with an international environmental agency.

I went back to school at age 35 and finished my BA in psychology from The Ohio State University.

My crowning achievement is implementing and funding a comprehensive home-based therapy program for my daughter who experiences autism.

Important Business

My daughter is a freshman in high school and brought home this pamphlet from her health class titled "The Condom:
Do Condoms Make Sex Safer"

Que?

The last paragraph reads " Waiting to have sex until you are in a faithful, lifelong relationship (such as marriage) is the only certain way to avoid being infected sexually." WHATTHEFUCK?! So, if any of my good friends care to, send an e-mail to the company through their website at www.medinstitute.org and remind them that marriage is way overrated… Continue

Housing crisis

This housing crisis effects all of us differently. Here's what mine looks like:

So it was while I was at Lowes buying something to put in the hole that used to be my bathtub that I got a call asking me to accompany my friend to the Illinois Inaugural Ball. My immediate thought was wh… Continue

Sarah Palin = Owned

There’s no real dignified way to be a sucker, Mrs. Palin. They can dress you up, but at the end of the day, your party’s lack of substance couldn’t float you. And we all know most shit floats...look at the last 8 years. The GOP slapped flag stickers on everything they presented to the American people and the people looked no further. The American Flag is a powerful entity, it truly is and I look forward to the day when it isn’t marketed like a troll doll. The GOP used Sarah Palin like a cheap wh… Continue

Why Obama might lose

Here are my twin daughters, dancing in the streets at the Omaba rally today in Columbus Ohio. It was the largest crowd for a political rally ever in our city.

Everyone was jubilant, some people started doing the electric slide right in the middle of High Street:… Continue

Get out of Iraq

Seriously, it's becoming such a back burner issue and it could go on for years. If I learned only one thing in my stats courses it is that using sunk cost as justification for a decision is flawed at best. What is sunk cost? Well, when it comes to the war, people who use sunk cost say things like "If we pull out of Iraq now, all of those people will have died for nothing..." It's flawed logic. (FYI, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost)

Can someone please tell me what we will "win" in Iraq at… Continue

Katie, thanks for the comment. It was hard developing the program because it was misunderstood. However, after staying the course and hearing the comments from learners who did the experience, my colleagues changed their minds!!
Have a great holiday season. Charlene

Katie, Congrats on your achievements.
Also, please consider sharing the home based therapy program that you created for your daughter with the wider community. I have lots of friends with children who have differing degrees of autism and you just might be helpful to one who is looking for something
