In 100 words or less tell us how you are a leader
It appears that throughout my life, I have been fighting for causes, making changes (a great change agent!!!) finding ways to improve upon what we have and creating that which we do not. This started at a young age having a passive "sit-in" for a dress code change in Jr. High (middle school), first girl on the high school guys track team because there were no girls track team. (The following year they had one). Having owned a construction company when it was virtually unheard of for a woman to own one, I found a need for programs in construction to be created at the community college level. Not only do I teach math, but construction management and concrete construction management. Before the onslaught of the campaign season, I am trying to finish my dissertation in Educational Policy Studies at Wayne State working with the Dept. of Corrections in Lansing for prison education.

If there is a will, there is a way. There is power in numbers and quality in those numbers makes it even stronger. 2010 is my year to be elected to Michigan's State Senate. With my diverse educational and small business background, I will help Michigan retool, retrain, and restore prosperity.

The White House Project has shown me that I am not alone in fighting for what is right. It was an exhilarating camp with so many marvelous women with a multitude of wonderful skill sets that will blaze trails for a better future for all.

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.
