WomenRule!, O-Magazine, Table #6 saved my life. Everyone including me thought I was attending WomenRule! to launch my project but during very deep and meaningful dialogue I realized it is time to get healthy. Come join me on my journey to get well!

As an active pta board member for my children's school, I have managed to work with some extremely gifted individuals. We have managed to receive a grant for our Title I elementary school and are now able to put in a playground where there had been none. I have also created a gardening club at the school to compliment the Waldorf programming. I could not have done this alone, but have used my public relations and marketing skills to take the projects to the next level-from dream to reality. I am now the PTA president and am working with public officials on creating a better educational experience for all our kids in school and beyond.

Where have I been?

Well, I've been busy. Went to DC on behalf of National PTA (Legislative Conference), walked the hill asking for more $ for education and renewal of the nutrition act, been on field trips with my kids, popping popcorn as a fundraiser at the school, tracking down promised grant money, writing about my experiences on local momslikeme site http://louisville.momslikeme.com/members/JournalActions.aspx?g=246923&m=4348237
generally creating mayhem and solemnly swearing that I am up to no good, faceb… Continue

Local and National Recognition

Just wanted to say it has been the busiest two weeks ever! Just returned from visiting with my family in NY-my neice and nephew were there from Arizona so I packed up the kids and drove 10 hours so we could have family time (thank goodness for DVD players-road trips are now measured in "it's a 4 movie trip" rather than the endless echo of "are we there yet?"). We ate too much, played too much, watched Monty Python over and over (and then had to listen to three boys, 9, 8, 7, repeat entire passag… Continue

What next?

I was volunteering at my son's school....again.....assisting with the final assesments of our fitness program. One of the young trainers said- "I see you here all the time, you sure are committed" Hmm. What does that word mean to me? Dedicated yes, crazy yes. I am committed. I go through withdrawl when summer happens because I miss my parent friends, I miss my projects (even though they make me crazier). I hate that these 3 months means that the momentum may slow down. so I am focusing on the fu… Continue

Sorrow

A close friend of mine has a terrible decision to make. Last night her 16 year old son was in a car accident. His car hydroplaned across the road into oncoming traffic. The weather prevented him from being flown into Louisville. At first they didn't think there was any internal injuries, just non-responsive and unconscious. After being flown into the city, he proceded to go into surgery as his liver, spleen and stomach were all damaged. Although his heart is beating on its own, brain wave activi… Continue

Hello Myrdin! Thanks for the info...I will have to store that for use later on. Always looking for new contributors for our school events.

My profitable companies are so diverse, and my non profit was created out of needs we ran across in the profitable companies. There are three projects/programs under the non profit. The first is a division that handles environmental development/re-development of public properties (parks, wetlands, trails, schools, commercial and residential properties, etc.); we remove chemical use on these properties, install water conservation feeding systems and use natural and organic plant products on the property, as well as remove dead plants and replace with plants that are native to the area. We also help landscape professionals implement our program on properties all over the country. The second division handles women's education in the form of brochures and public speaking engagments at women's events and organizations, as well as our latest project which will include a magazine. The education includes professional, personal and environmental topics. The third division is our latest, and deals in children's education. This project is too long to describe, but the jist of it is that the children today have no idea what is going on in the world...no idea what this country is about, no idea of our heritage, or what jobs are out there in the world, and basically no idea what they are going to do. They are limited to what they are told locally, some do not even have guidance counselors. We aim to change this; our basic focus is assist school age children in finding career or job opportunities throughout the United States. We not only educate them on what is available out there, but we match them up with camps and training programs, and scholarship money to pay for it. We will also have the SAT and ACT online assistance and career assessment tests. Our focus of course are environmentally conscious careers, but we are more focused on the "no child left behind" as they graduate and become adults. This program was developed as I watched my niece struggle...and there was no one at her school to help, so I got angry, got over it and got busy creating something to help students like her.

Lots of things going on with just that one company. My other two are profitable, but equally draining. There is a joke in this family that every time I have a child I start a new company or venture...not this time unless you count the Maxmized program that we started...I guess that is new, so they are all right. Something for each of my children.

Gotta go...going in the pool with my chitlins. Gotta love on them for a while...being a mom is so fun!!!!

Take care and check out the Maximized page. Lots going on...there is always two minutes to take to participate, so I hope you will!

Talk to you soon!

Hey Myrdin! Busy is good, but remember to take time to breath! Life around here is always hectic, but I would be bored otherwise. Hey try Baskin Robbins or Culvers for ice cream donations...they are both really good about it. Otherwise hit up Sam's club to donate boxes of ice cream bars or tubs of ice cream...we have done all of those things and they work out well.

We are headed today to Arizona for a month. I have to go back and jump start the non profit and help out with taxes and such for the profitable companies, and try and have a bit of a vacation in the meantime. In the midst of all that I have to get my daughter through her scuba diving training and then when we get back in July we start with the camps. The non profit is going to consume my professional time as we launch three new projects and look for grant funding from the fed and private foundations somewhere in the amount of a million dollars. Other than that I am in the midst of renovating the house and putting it on the market in August while we set to move back west next June. As I said, life here is always busy, but that is OK.

The Maximized program is going to be awesome...we are just now getting the attention of the WHP and they are going to lend a hand after the June training, so we will see. For anyone who has something they want to do, this program will get them on their way and the WHP will hopefully come through with some additional trainings and conferences after we do to keep everyone moving forward.
Gas is going to be a killer this year! What they heck is up with that???? I am going to buy into oil as that is apparently where all the money is.

Election...crazy times. Not sure either of the people running will be able to pull it together with a Congress that refuses to work together. That is the problem you know...not the President, but the Congress. Too many people not wanting to compromise...trying to get their own agenda in and not really caring one way or another about their constituents. Lovely. We need to get rid of some of those people and put people into office who will actually work for the good of Americans. The President has so many advisors it is not even funny, but I worry that Obama with his nil experience in military issues and very lil experience in anything else will do more bad than good. McCain is an awesome Senator...he takes such great care of the people in Arizona, but he has his own bad spots too. He does have the ability to lead this country, but the guy is like 72 years old...I personally think we should go back to Congress and say this is it...this is the best your parties have to offer. It is bad enough that when they serve a term they can retire and we support them until they die. Agh!!! Slightly irritated with this whole political thing. I have been involved in politics since high school, but I am starting to want to move to an island somewhere and forget everything else exists. Sorry, rant over!

Anyway, hope you have an awesome summer and that you take time to get things moving for yourself. It is great to be busy, but I have learned to maneuver time for me between husband and four kids. Otherwise I would be crazy right now!!!

Take care of yourself and keep in touch!

Myrdin you missed an amazing start today! I wish you could have joined us, and I hope you will jump right in from here. I jotted down some notes on the Maximized page under the discussion labeled "Program Ideas and Suggestions", so check it out. What we did today was introduce each other and tell a little bit about ourselves. Each of us has been assigned the task of replying to the three discussions on the Maximized page regarding our skills and abilities, our proposed idea or company that we need assistance with, and of course program ideas and suggestions. These things need to be completed by Sunday, June 1rst and then will be summarized and implemented as of our next call set for Wednesday, June 11th at 1:30 PM (EST). This is a lot to deal with in between everything else, but it will be well worth it...we have a great group of talented women to start this program with and more to come. I hope you will join us. If you have any questions let me know.

Take care and I hope to speak with you soon!

Hi Myrdin! You are so awesome! I just read that you started the gardening club at the school! We have so much in common...I wish we lived closer as I am pretty sure you are a blast to be around! My profitable company distributes natural and organic fertilizers and plant products, and we have a program for kids...I used it with the Girl Scouts when we built a trail along the West Wetland Project in Arizona which runs adjacent to the Colorado River. There are so many fun things I want to do with children's groups and there never seems to be enough time.

Anyway, I wanted to remind you about the conference call tomorrow at 1 PM (EST). I hope you can join us, even if it is just for 15 minutes or so...I think this will be a great program for all of us. The training can't help us now, but we can create our own and help each other now and continuously. The instructions are on the Maximized page under the blog agenda and instructions for call...if you have any questions let me know. Hope to speak with you tomorrow!

Myrdin - Love to read that you started a gardening club at the elementary school! I just finished reading "Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder" and have been thinking lots about my child's elementary school & the lack of nature there. I have lots of research to do, but would love to hear more about how your gardening club works b/c this sounds very non-confrontational & a great way to accomplish the ideas outlined in this book. Thank you!
