In 100 words or less tell us how you are a leader
When I was first diagonosed with Graves disease I was told I had possibly had it for over 10 years. Doctors I had went to were all male. They dismissed my symptoms as "hormonal" and put me on antidepressants. It saddens me that women's health issues are still not as front page as men's health issues. More research needs to be done when it comes to women's health. I am a stronger supporter of women's health and well being. We need more female leaders here in America to make a difference in women's health care. I am also a mother of two teen sons who are my life. My oldest one is going to be a senior next year and my youngest is going to be a sophmore. I home school my youngest because he has some learning disabilities that my husband and I felt could be addressed here at home. He needed the one on one that we could give him. One of the things I am working on with him is to have more respect for women. My oldest is very respectful but somewhere along the way my youngest hit a little bump in the road when it comes to respecting women. In the 6 months he has been homeschooled alot of his negatives views have vanished. I am a strong advocate for women's health and I am trying to start a local chapter on Domestic Abuse Awareness.

Excited!!!

I have been chosen to be the Chairperson for this year's Memory Walk here in my town. I am so excited!! I have been a team captain for 2 years now and I am so honored that I was chosen this year to head the walk up. My Grandpa died of Alzheimer's when I was barely a teenager. I don't have alot of memories of him but one that does stick out is of the last time I saw him. He was in a nursing home and was in the later stages of the disease. I remember being scared of him and not wanting to get near… Continue

Thank you again for your sisterly love and support of my endeavors! It is greatly appreciated.
Congratulations on being selected as the Chairperson for the upcoming Alzheimer's Walk. Perhaps some women on this site have expressed an interest in that cause and can provide you with some valuable insight and suggestions.

It is great you have "back-up" with your husband. Peer influence is very powerful but with the two of you exemplifying--your boys will do just fine.

Precious sister: Thank you for your comment. Stay on him--your son. Yes they do get weary sometimes of our "teachable moments" or "words of wisdom" but ain't nobody gonna care about your child like you--except maybe his Father or others close to his life. My boys say "ah Mommy" all the time but I just hug them and let them know what I share what I share in love and through life experience. You are doing an incredible job Mommy, this is not a job for the faint of heart. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Be confident in the blessing of being a Mommy even though there are days when I/my friends are just plum exhausted. Big shout out to you!!!
Always,
Asahi

Hi Marsha, I was ill for years and also just told to manage my pain with pain pills and anti-depressants. After seeing "The Secret" I learned all I could about mind/body techniques and have been pain and pain pill free for 18 months now. I coach people (all women currently) about natural healing and have a blog Heal Pain Naturally. I'd love to give you a free copy of my ebook.... looks like we have similar stories. You can email me directly at jennymannion@yahoo.com and I can send it to you. Looking forward to getting to know you. Gratefully, Jenny

My friend Carol has it so bad that she had to have surgery which was performed in San Antonio. Her eyes were really bulging out that it scared people. She looks great now and you would never know if she didn't tell you.

Thanks for the invite Marsha. It was great to read about the work you do at home and in the community. Interestingly, Alternatives to Domestic Violence has been one of my partners as I admire the director's passion and love for ADV.

I concur completely on your profile words...we need many more women doctors in this world. The cardiac field is another dominated by men; who for decades haven't taken women's heart health seriously. My parents were told that at age 8, I would outgrow the fainting spells; as they were for attention. YEAH RIGHT...I was fainting because I needed attention. At age 26, I was finally diagnosed with 3rd degree heart block and the fainting spells - were not even; my heart was stopping each time. Yikes! :-)

Hi there! What a pleasant surprise that you have joined this site! It is a great way to network and be encouraged from other strong women with leadership qualities.
My mom also has Graves disease by the way.
