Change is Here

Hello Friends,

Today is the first day of what I would like to call "A New America". Yesterday was a day for the ages, today marks the start of our Reconstruction. We have a long road ahead of us in order to achieve our goals. All Americans must stand committed to rebuilding this country, through hard word and dedication it is certainly possible.

Through the White House Project I have met so many women who share my hopes and struggles. We have engaged in passionate discussions throughout the el… Continue

New Year-New Me

Each year women across the world make resolutions to change their life and transform themselves. In 2008 I vowed to quit smoking once and for all, a dangerous habit that I acquired when I was a teenager. I finally succeeded and smoked my last cigarette in June of 2008.

I am proud of myself and am grateful for the opportunity to see my hard work and dedication pay off. I am now working on getting myself healthy by losing the weight that I gained after I quit smoking as well as the other pounds I… Continue

Second Chances

In life there are always things that we wish we had of done differently. Hairstyles we wished we never tried, job offers we should of taken, potential suitors we should of given chances to. This week has been for me the week of second chances.

At work I have reinvented myself and in my opinion have become the quintessential team player. In parenting I am learning to not indulge my child as much and only reward him if he deserves it. In love I am learning to put myself second sometimes and work… Continue

Giving Thanks

A week ago I was frazzled and upset and not looking forward to the upcoming Holiday season. I am now starting to relax and I guess grow up a little too. I now know that it is not all about presents and spectacles but in being with the people that matter the most. I am grateful for my mother's health and my new niece Kayla who was not with us last Thanksgiving. She has come to fill in some ways the void my father's passing has left in our family and my mother's heart. I am thankful for that. I am… Continue

Here comes another week....

It is 11:00 pm Sunday night and the start of a new week. I'm trying to find a balance even when at times I don't know if I am coming or going. One thing I know is I'm going on vacation, really, really soon :-)

I spent my day at a luncheon for a health care group of senior citizens. We watched the inaugration from a small television set. The spirits were high and we enjoyed a good meal while watching our new president take office. Then my cousin and I went to the local nursing home and shared a few hours with people who were glad to have companionship.
I spent my day thinking and reflecting on the progress that we have made in a short time since the civil rights movement was the news of the hour. As an older African American I had lots of moments of remembrances of the past. I felt no bitterness or past resentment. I just thanked God for his mighty hand in delivering our people from being the dregs of society. Now that we have a man of color in the white house it is important for us to shed the memories of racial hatred and open our hearts and minds to understanding and loving all people.

Good Morning,
Happy New Year to you. I hope you are doing what I am doing this morning. I started a new journal yesterday. I am telling myself that this is going to be a very productive year. When I look back at last year I had a very good year in 2008. I worked hard on my book and got the publishers to accept it. I also returned to school and made all A's since I returned. This year I will graduate. That's a milestone for me. I am looking forward to doing some new things this year. With the will and help of the Lord I plan to start a home business this year. I need your prayers and support and I will remember you in prayer also.

Hi Kimberly, It is so nice to hear from you. As you know I have not been doing much writing on my page. I have been busy with school work. I have four more courses to go and I will be graduating with the class of 2009 for Boulden Seminary/UAME church. I thank God that He has allowed me to return to school this year and to maintain an A average.
I missed communicating with you. You have always inspired me with your God given wisdom. Keep in touch.

Hey Lady,

How are you. I am well, just busy as heck. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that though. What have you been up to? My mothers project is on hold for right now, it is coming, but the timing is not right. I have started another endeavor though. So I've been busy preparing for that. So what are you doing these days? Hope to hear from you soon.

P.S. Your statement rings true to my heart! I have a "My One & Only" (MOO); I call her many endearing names, and Jesse-Marie, now 21, is still my mine inspiration for living my best life. "Jess" has been an activists since she was little. She is blossoming into her potential, slept overnight at SFSU to protest cuts in education; has volunteered at homeless shelters and is planning a day on campus to make the point that education needs to be affordable to everyone that desires it. With a mom that was a special ed. teacher and a dad who is a social worker, she has chosen to continue using her voice and
energy to make a difference. All this to say, that when we put our children first, the strong base of love and support helps them to be secure in themselves; and then , I think, want to support others.
