Awakening the Dreamer

A symposium. I find myself sitting on the floor with about 50 other people filling the hardened chairs that Sun Microsystems has provided. I don't know how people sit in these chairs all day. Awakening the Dreamer... a day looking at the most critical issue and greatest opportun… Continue

After the first evening of my training with The White House Project, I ran up to my hotel room and dropped my notebooks from the day so I wouldn't have to carry them to the bar/networking that was taking place. I was not sure how long I would stay up - it was already 10:00pm.
I noticed one… Continue

I have no idea where I got the email about The White House Project Leadership Training. I am not surprised however, as I tend to sign up for newsletters by the dozen. The newsletter arrived in my email box late one night and I decided to sign up for the training that was coming to Denve… Continue

Seriously. I know that I didn't read the history books from cover to cover when I was a student. I did however, educate myself politically over the years and somehow, I missed Shirley Chisholm. How is that possible? She was the first African American women to run for the P… Continue

Power Mommies
(A poem for all of the power mommies on the White House Project)

Our days are long, the thanks are few but there is something special about what we do,
We wake up at the crack of dawn; pray for wisdom and guidance so we can make it through.
We fax our bid, finish a dozen emails and whip up breakfast and yeah--sometimes burn the toast.
We change many diapers, pack up backpacks while we answer calls from coast to coast.

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies, through and through.

We glance at our Outlook, while we read the latest report,
But our focus stays constant while our sons play on their fort.
We never set an appointment without careful consideration,
To ensure we help our daughters with their report on the United Nations.

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies through and through.

There are days when we are exhausted beyond measure,
Truth be told for us, our motivation is but a heartfelt treasure.
We purpose in our lives to be vibrant professionals and great mothers,
We can do just about anything—heck-- even go undercover!

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies through and through.

We can do just about anything but sometimes encouragement and compliments are few,
Whether it is guiding huge corporations or serving the homeless with our crew,
We come in all shapes and sizes and beautiful colors galore,
We are inspiring and gifted so watch out cause there is so much more!

We are power mommies, that is what we do,
We are power mommies through and through.

To be continued……….

Thanks for the invite. Making a difference in the lives of women and children....awesome! Let me know how I can help.

This White House project online community is pretty amazing. Although I won't be physically attending the classes in New York, I've met so many incredible women. Thanks again for sharing, Ashley.

Hi Ashley, thanks for the message! You can check out my company at www.iamOriginOne.com. Right now I am in the process of getting the word out -- PR, celebs, etc. However, I still work as a CFO for an investment bank and do some other consulting. I am also a mom!

Tell me about what you do and let's figure out a way to help each other!

What type of business do you own? You're the one who sounds really busy! So far, I haven't been very active in politics, so I thought this might be an avenue for me to get my feet wet. I'm looking forward to learning more from everyone on the website and trying to attend some of the events.
