Welcome!

You have entered a community of phenomenal women, from all 50 states, coming together to transform the world. We are mothers and daughters, teachers and business owners, aspiring and seasoned politicians. We often differ in age, ethnicity, religion or political persuasion, but it is this diversity that is our greatest strength. Together, we are the faces and voices of American leadership.

We want to see your project idea come to life, and this forum is the opportunity to help you do just that. Each week we'll be presenting you with new and creative tools to help you succeed. By speaking with experts live through our "Add Women. Web Chats" you can ask your questions and share your experiences with the entire group.

This network is for you . . . tell us what you're looking for and what you would like to see as you make your ideas and dreams come to life by working together and building networks throughout the entire country. Share your ideas for change below!

I would love to be in contact with women leaders across the U.S. who are commited to making a stand and taking action where policies infringe on human values. I have an online radio site, http://www.sisterspace.net and would love to do interviews, other projects for women leadership from the grass root woman, to family, community, groups and country. Tell me about yourself.

OK, went to vote early here in Florida today. Only 2% of the ballot were women including the Republican VP pick. I now live in Jacksonville Florida-very Republican and 'southern' per say. So obvious men still dominate around here-get with it people, it is 2008!!!! So sad. Met an awesome woman in her 50's who said she tried running but as a Democrat she would never win-not to mention she is African American and she told me the Demographics around here don't support women of color. I am sickened by the ignorance around me. I never thought about being in politics until the Women Rule seminar and this makes me think about it even harder.

Hi All:
I am thrilled to be able to participate in this forum. Having read some of the posts, I can see there is a vast brain trust here just waiting to be drawn upon and circulated amongst us all.

I look forward to provocative discussions, thoughtful insight and friendly banter.

Cheers,

Hi Haley,
Katia raises an important point. One of the first things that is necessary is a clear vision of what you want to accomplish. What is the purpose (mission)? goals? outcomes? audience? There are several ways to get to where you want to go. I am a Licensed Therapist and this has helped me understand the clinical pieces of challenges. I have a private practice now and have had to learn the business piece--markets, business plans, financial planning, etc. In my experience, they take different sets of skills. It might be helpful to start in your community or the on-line community and put together some questions and interview people. Interview at least 10 people--you will start to notice some overlap. Most people are more than willing to set aside an hour to help someone out. Don't worry if some turn you down, it is just business, it is not personal...keep going. Find an adult you trust to turn to when you get stuck. Mentors are great whenever you start a new endeavor! Go gett'em Haley!

Hello Haley, Your aspirations are very commendable. I congratulate you on your strength to overcome your disorder and for your courage and willingness to discuss them openly toward helping others. Setting up a non profit entity does cost money, but isn't difficult. Having a solid foundation of support to run it however, may be more challenging. I would suggest going on line to look at other non profit organizations that might offer the type of services you're interested in providing to learn more. Perhaps there's one in existence that you could approach with your idea. They might need volunteers for example and someone with your background could be of assistance. Plus you would gain valuable knowledge and experience that would help you toward the setting up of your own organization in the future. You might want to consider going into the field of counseling and then directing your educational focus there. There are grants available and ways to raise money both for education and for business purposes but first you need to establish exactly what you want to do and determine how much that will cost. Perhaps write a letter to Oprah. She's overwhelmed with requests but you could get lucky. In any event, keep your dream alive and continue to seek various avenues. Where there's a will, there a way. Good luck to you. Best, Katia

Advice needed:
I am only 15. I am looking to start a non-profit organization. I want to educate teens about the horrible effects of self-harm and eating disorders. I am really into the music scene and I'd like to promote the organization there. I am a recovered anorexic and cutter. I want to teach people that escaping those type feelings is possible. This cause is really important to me, I just don't know how to go about starting it...I'm not even sure if I came to the right place, but if you have any info. it will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Delete Comment I am so happy to be part of the White House Project... I'm the mother of 4 biological and 2 step children and I have a total of 5 grandchildren and one on the way (Due 1/09). Women are wonderful people and marvelously made. I want to network with other leaders to get things moving. I work FT in accounting and I have my "Pampered Chef" business that I love to use to raise money for good causes... Breast Cancer, Diabetis, Homelessness, Art/Dance/Music/Sports, and much more...I will support your causes as well.
