When I was fighting cancer, the chemo and radiation took a tremendous toll on my body and emotional well being. I began to get frustrated at the treating physicians because they began to treat me like an object rather than a human being with all of their prescriptions to combat the chemo side effects. Not once did a Dr. ask me about my well being or emotional needs. Now that I am one year out, I feel stronger mentally but physically, it is still an uphill battle. I regret DEEPLY waiting eight months to see a Dr. about the lump in my breast area. It could have been diagnosed at an earlier stage. I hope everyone reading this will not ever put off going to the Dr. at the first sign of something odd. Get to know your body and it is really ok to touch your breasts. Smile.

Mind, Body, Spirit/Heart: Yoga. Healing is a state that may not include 'cure'. We
heal when our essence is at peace. During cancer, I did not feel sick, if anything, I felt more alive, connected to Spirit and knew that I was essentially and always "healed". That cancer is 'cured/remission' may be a by-product for me, it doesn't mean that those with active cancer are not healed and whole.
Our bodies will die. Flesh returns to ashes. This is not failure, it is fact. When
we are complete, we change form; still in my body, there is simply more for me to do.

It is so vital as women to take care of our bodies. There are so many stresses from your environment and mental stresses that you need to be aware of to maintain wellness. My passion is serving others and enabling them to function at an optimal level. It is really very simple: When your cells are healthy, then your tissues are healthy and your organs, system and body maintains health. All dis-ease and wellness is a cellular event so we need to focus on feeding our cells the proper nutrition. I love sharing my passion. I look forward to networking, and creating a support of women nation wide to claim the wellness we all deserve in our lives.

Hi Tammy, Thanks for starting such an important group. I am with you, my mom has been helped by chemo as well... but I am for more natural healing in general. I healed myself from several chronic illnesses when drs. said I wouldn't and now blog about it at Heal Pain Naturally. I would love to talk to you more about this and possibly work together somehow.
Gratefully, Jenny

I am passionate about Healing. I know that it takes place on all levels (mind, body, spirit) and we have to address each level to promote harmony in the body. I believe that you can address issues of the physical body with modern medicine and address issues of the mind and spirit with other Holistic healing methods, or vice versa.

My mother has cancer. I know that chemo has helped her survive, but it has also taken its toll on her body too. She will tell you she has survived by taking her chemo, prayer, and a positive attitude. I am a big believer in herbs, massage and seeing the chiropractor with my children, (my mom calls me a Hippie). When we need to see a doctor we go if there are no alternatives. I believe the failing of our health care system in this country is that they are stuck in another time and place. Many Leaders on here have already talked about and are finding ways to make a change in the system so that health care is affordable to all. I love Jessica's and Jem's approach to name a few. We need more leaders like these women!

Of course not all holistic treatments can back up their claims, but many do, and they do it a lot cheaper. Like finding alternative sources of energy for our vehicles, our country will need to find cheaper alternatives to healing our bodies, spirits and minds as we age.

A lot of it is common sense. Eating right, rest, limiting stress if possible, exercising, taking a vitamin! To me, Integrative Wellness has as much to do with prevention of the disease, as modern medicine has to do with "curing" it.

I would enjoy hearing about the ways you have personally addressed any health issues in your life. What path did you take? Did it work for you? Would you do it again?
T.

How can I fund my nonprofit, where do I turn? What resources are available? Who can help me write a grant? What is capacity building? This group will enable and empower you to find the resources and money to do it all--but you have to ASK.
