Dr. Sophia A. Crocheron Comment by Dr. Sophia A. Crocheron on September 17, 2009 at 10:50pm
First I would like to say this this network is a most timely response in a critical time in our history. I am just learning how to work through these networks as I actually started off on MySpace some years ago. Got so busy and it was hard to keep up with it all. Now I am on Twitter, Facebook, and have several Nings of my own not to mention running too very active international NGO's full time. With all that being said, I hope that I am placing the following request for help in the right place. If not, will someone let me know :-) Thanks.

I am planning a 10-week interactive course with which I would appreciate any assistance that can be provided. It is entitled "Expanding a Season for Nonviolence" and will begin January 29 and run through April 7. The sub-title or theme for the course is "Reach In then Reach Out to Serve the World -- As Within So Without." The short description looks like this

10-Weeks of Inter-Religious, Cross-Cultural Activities and Services (including Panel Discussion on a Peace Question, Field Trips, Prayer & Meditation, and more) -- at VARIOUS VENUES LISTED BELOW.
Every - Friday, Sunday, Monday & Wednesday
Beginning: January 29, 2010 through April 7 2010 - Sessions at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Call (313) for further information.

Our offices are located in Michigan and therefore most if not all of the sessions will be held in southeastern Michigan within four hours of Detroit. For those attending 30 sessions or more, "Inspire Peace Fellow" Certificates will be presented on the last day.

Any help or advise on making this a tremendously beneficial learning experience will be greatly appreciated. And surely, we are looking for content and some phenomenal speakers who will volunteer their time or speak for a small honoraium.

Thanks everyone.
By the way, it just donned on me that maybe I should start this as a group within the White House Project. So, if it goes through, it will look like "Expanding A Season for Nonviolence" group/network, etc.

I decided for this group because I have many ideas to develop but I need some motivation to implement them. I am writing a book but it is time consuming. It stopped me to continue my dream to open my Charity Organization to help the elderly community and children. I had been helping others with fundraising (making a lot money for them), organization of events, etc.

Hi Ladies! I was thrilled to find this discussion group. One of my pet-peeves of the welfare system is that there is money for a mother to go work a minimum wage job (and often the childcare cost is more than what the mother earns), but there is no money for her to stay home and raise her own children. There have been numerous studies which show that early bonding reduces later crime rates and substance abuse, yet we encourage these women to leave their babies with a childcare provider (who won't give them the love and attention that she can) to still go earn substandard wages. I know all the comments about "well these women will just keep having babies to get more money." To that, I say horse-hockey! Having been a single-mother below the poverty line, it would never have occurred to me to have more babies to get more foodstamps! How ridiculous is that? How about we put our money into parenting and empowerment programs for parents while the kids are young, so we can put less into the courts and prison systems later on.

Hi. I'm 15 and I'm looking for information on how to start a non-profit organization. I've done some research and it seems like a very lengthy complicated process. Being 15, some people might think I'm too young to do anything. But I am an etremely dedicated hard- worker. I want to teach other teens about the harmful effects of self-harm and eating disorders. I've been down that road and I want to help others. I just need to know where to start. Advice=appreciated! Thanks
