Heather began her life of service volunteering in 6th,7th and 8th grade at a local nursing home. As a freshman and sophomore at the University of Missouri, she served as a volunteer firefighter. Following her sophomore year, Heather joined the United States Navy.

During Operation Desert Storm, Heather Beaven served as a cryptologist. For her service she was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal, and was appointed as the Command Training Petty Officer and Prevention of Sexual Harassment Trainer. These assignments would open a new world of education and training, setting the tone for her professional life. While serving in the Navy, Heather Beaven began volunteering as a rape and trauma counselor, something she would continue for years and, subsequently, serving as a hospice volunteer.

Heather was one of 10 female sailors to be the first to set sail on a combat ready vessel, selected by President Bill Clinton to serve on the USS Kinkaid, a Spruance-class Destroyer.

After leaving the Navy, she returned to and graduated from the University of Missouri (BA) and the University of North Florida (MPA).

In 1997, at the age of twenty eight, she was appointed by Governor Bill Graves, Kansas, to oversee the Workforce Investment Act and other labor and workforce training programs. During her tenure with Kansas, she provided written testimony to Congress as an expert on an array of workforce development issues including Veterans employment & training. In 2000 she traveled to the Republic of Macedonia to consult with the government on workforce development.

Today, she is the CEO of The Florida Endowment Foundation for Florida’s Graduates where she focuses all of her energies on helping young Floridians learn how to be the CEO of their lives. In 2008 her programs delivered a 97% graduation rate.

Heather and her husband Douglas have two daughters – Olivia and Bella – and a dog named Coconut. They live in Palm Coast, Florida.
